It is possible that your diffusers are being fowled by the precipitation of dissolved metals. We have experienced severe plating and subsequent fowling of diffusers with pond water that has high levels of iron and or manganese. The good news is that these metals will not be so prevalent in your water. The bad news is that it may cause a significant maintenance issue. I recommend checking you diffusers for fowling. If there is a lot of precipitate on the diffusers, get a water test done to check your levels of dissolved metals. If this is the case, you may need to clean your diffusers frequently with a brillo pad or simply switch to a surface aerator.
