I have a new pond that first filled in March of this year. Last fall I installed a Vertex system. Last Friday the water temps were as follows:

Surface 74 degrees
4 foot 67 degrees
11 foot 57 degrees

Sunday evening was the first night the System ran (from 8 PM to 6 AM, so last night was the third night. The water temps this morning were:

Surface 71 degrees
4 foot 70 degrees
11 foot 70 degrees

I have 2 diffusers, one at the bottom, about 11' deep and the other in about 5' of water. The pond is 0.6 acres with an average depth of 5.5'. Needless to say I am very happy.

Last summer there were only fatheads in the pond but I believe with the drought and extreme heat that I would have had a fish kill had other fish been stocked. I stocked with BG, RES, and LMB in October and I believe that they will happily survive the summer. Now to get the clay to settle out!

Nice you seem to have less deep water than I. My surface water temp went from 72 to 58 in the 6 days it took me to start it up. I am very lucky to have the heaviest clay anyone could ask for. We could get away with very steep banks then 4-1 on the shore for 10 feet.

It never really hit me till I read it over and over on this site the benefits of aeration. Makes me wonder if I start really pushing the biomass of the pond if I should look into a back up pump or at least a rebuild kit to have on hand.

I should get a temp prob. Been telling my self this for years now for fishing.

A backup pump or kit if you can afford it would be a GREAT idea. Unless you can get one rather quick.

As your fish grow and your fish have fish some will survive unless you are taking fish out on a consistant basis your biomass is going to grow weather you like it or not. 3 or 4 days without a pump could be costly if it's the wrong time of year!
