I have a 7 acre pond about 40ft. deep and fed by springs. It is actually an old gravel pit that is filled with spring-fed water. It is currently loaded with native large-mouth bass up to 22" and smallmouth and bluegills. I bought 12 2pound rainbows a couple of years back and let them go in the pond. A couple months later we had caught two and rereleased them but never caught another trout. There are hundreds of fish in the pond ; Is it possible that they are still there and the odds of catching them are too great? Would this pond sustain a population of trout and if so , what would be the best kind and size to start with.

Sorry to ask this question without any answer to your question, but could you tell a little more about the Smallmouth? When you stocked them, How big they are, etc.
Thanks Sunil
