Hey guys. This is my first post ever. Great magazine. I am renovating a 100 year old plus cypress lake in SE LA about 18 acres. It is mostly a levee lake with steep banks. Anyone know the best mower to operate on a 60 HP tractor for this type of bank.

Welcome. You will find that there is a great wealth of information here....more than you ever wanted to know. The search feature will direct you to any problems you might run into with good advise from Pondmeisters who have "been there and done that".

Can you get your tractor on any of the slope to the pond or do you have to stay on the top of the hill? How far from the waters edge to where you can get your tractor? I see the County is now using a 5' Brush Hog on the end of a long boom arm. There is a counter weight on the opposite side of the tractor so it don't tip over when fully extended. Fully extended on some steep slopes it must reach 16 or 18 feet.

Sorry, I don't know the cost or even the manufactures brand name but perhaps you could search the net under mowers or grass/weed cutting implements.

bobguillory,

What a great project! We are glad you are here and hope we have a chance to follow your project.

Like Dan, I've seen but not owned the equipment that is designed for that purpose...just couldn't justify the costs for special purpose equip. You have a situation where it is probably a good investment in that equipment. You probably know it, but safety is a huge consideration when working on the dam or levee. Things can get out of hand very fast.

Welcome to the Forum and tell us more about your project...we thrive on information!
