That is a beauty!! Congrats Shorty! I think SMB are such a pretty fish...
Thanks! I was trying to catch RES this morning on a mirco jig, I hooked a small 3-4" golden shiner when this SMB took the shiner as I was reeling it in. It was very fun on the ultra light with 6 lb. test.
Whoa. That's impressive Shorty!! Congrats bud.
Very nice SMB. Std weight of a 19" SMB is 4.0 lb. At 20.4" it should weigh 5.0lbs. Keep them well fed for the next weight plateau.
Wow! Really nice SMB. Good to hear they are working on your GSH also.
4# smallies would be nice to have in a pond. And nice res too
Nice one shorty
Nice. Would not mind stocking some SMB in my RES only pond in a couple years.
Shorty... Looks like you need a new, longer ruler!
Not to hijack this thread, but I'm going to anyway. I've asked this before, but never saw a response. Do your SMB have a somewhat musky odor? Mine do. I've caught several now (20+) and it seems like there is a smell with them. I was wondering if it was my water, fish food, me, or what, but I'm not smelling it with the HBG or the YP. Anyone else notice it? FYI, the SMB I've caught in my pond are the only SMB I've ever caught..
I have not noticed any odor with smallies caught in my ponds or elsewhere.
I do, absolutely, get a whiff of a musky, fishy smell when I'm feeding and the first channel cat shows up. Happens every time without fail. I catch the smell for about 5 seconds, and voila, they are there.
I have never noticed any unusual smells when catching SMB.
Hmm, thanks guys. Must be something going on in my water.
