Just got back for Ontario (Lake of the Woods) and caught this personal best Musky at just over 52". This fish is a pig and was really fat.

I also caught a mid 40s fish but didn't get a picture of me holding it since it was really stress and I wanted to release it and not stress it out more.

I'd need three of my heart pills to land that critter.

Congratulations!

Were you able to get a weight? That's a PIG!
Posted By: lassig Re: New Personal Best - 07/08/13 09:53 PM
No weight, no way to weight it without hurting the fish, which is the last thing I wanted to do. Spent 15 minute reviving it. The girth is around 26/27 inches. Tried measuring it with her in the water but couldn't get it accurate. With that girth she is in the mid 40s for weight. If you use the straight length measurement she is in the low 50s for weight. All I can say is I had to sit down to hold her for the picture.

What a beautiful fish... I wonder how old she is being as far up north as she is?

One reason not to go swimming!

It would be very interesting to see the daily diet of this fish over the period of one year. By-the-way beautiful fish. Fate was on your side when she decided to eat your bait. Good job of not panicking, skillfully playing this fish, and not breaking your line. She probably thought how could such a small food item cause so much aggravation? Damn anglers anyway.

Great fish. You know it's big when the gut molds around your fingers.

Aw jeeze! Roadkill, surströmming, headcheese -- OK. But even I wouldn't eat a beautiful old fish like that.

Not that I would keep any muskie, Lake of the Woods has a 54" min on Muskies, one of the reason that I caught the 2 muskies I did (52, anmd mid 40s) and another member of our group fishing with me caught a 50" musky. I also saw many 40 and 50 inch fish follow during the couple of days I fished for them.

Very nice fish. Lake of the woods is well known for the big ones for sure.

Ya and that is why I do not dangle my feet off the dock up at the cottage. I have watched these fish eat baby ducks so sneaky that the little one next in line has no idea his brother is gone. Poor mama comes by every day with less and less till they are all gone.

Cheers Don.

You have a good picture and good measurements. Time for a replica mount!

Zoinks!!!!

That fish just looks out of proportion for a musky!

Not sure if you already mentioned it, but what did you catch her on?
Posted By: lassig Re: New Personal Best - 07/09/13 04:33 PM
Sunil, not I didn't mention what I caught her on. It was a small (6") single blade bucktail with an orange blade and orange/black shirt. That bucktail also caught the other musky and raised many fish. Going to have to build a couple more like that one. The word around camp and the guides in the area was that muskies where coming on smaller baits so I didn't throw any of my bigger baits for them. Not being abused by the larger baits let me fish longer for muskies. Any that has thrown a double bladed 10" bucktail knows what I am talking about.

I am thinking about the mount but still finishing up on building the deck and landscaping the house so hard to spend the money right now.

Call Cecil.

If you want to talk to him in person, come over here on the 20th.

Definitely consider Cecil for this. Would love to see what he does with this fish.
