We knocked out half of it yesterday and we’ll finish up today….it’s been fun, but I’m tired of it….I want to go fishing!! Speaking of fish…I noticed yesterday a lot of fish are hanging around under the deck, must be the shade or something, but it’s neat to sit above them and watch. \:\) I’ll try and post the completed pics tonight if I can crawl to my office….this work stuff is hard on an old fat man  .

It looks awesome, Jim.

That's great looking. Will you stain it later?

I love it!!!

For me, the thing that will make it or break it will be the railings. Do something unique and interesting, and you turn a nice deck into a showpiece!!!

Thanks for all the updates, it's an amazing project and allot of fun to read your updates.

That's going to be something when finished.

Jim, I think it would look great if you could lower it 6". Shouldn't be a problem, should it? JUST KIDDING!!!
Looks great! Like Eddie, can't wait for the railing pix.

That's gonna be great deck when finished. I wish i would have thought those concrete posts when I built mine. Now that built to last.

I AM SOOOO JEALOUS!!!! \:D But keep up the great updates!!! How about a shot from standing mid-way looking out over the pond?

Yep, continues to set the new benchmark for deck design. Very nice job wrapping the steel with wood...very nice.
So, what did you decide for the railings?
So, what did you decide to "name" this new destination? This type of a structure requires a special name. Maybe you should start a thread, tapping the deep pool of PB forum creativity to assist. (No...you can't use Perfect Deck; want one? )

With those big 2x attached to the sides, and some structural railings, maybe the bracing wouldn't even be needed.

Can't wait to see the finished project.

If it were mine it would be known as "The Plank".

Good point Bobad about the the railing stiffening up everything.

Jim: Be sure and post pics of the first cannonball off the end.

Take a wild guess what I have in mind for this gap.

A big steel pipe that can double as a conduit for your electrical lines?

Is it a slot for the Rocket Powered Personal People Launcher to travel in?

Steam catapult for launching large bait? \:\)

But I think Theo hit it on the head.

Oooo, you guys are all pretty close. Let us never underestimate the power of the man with so many ideas in his head that it often hangs forward from the weight.

We all fell for that limp gag about the unsupported beams being too springy and requiring kickers. Yeah...kickers...right. They're actually compound, scissors action lifts that are acutated by the same pneumatic power that Jim will use to not only raise the entire structure to a 45 degree upward trajectory, but fire a well-insured participant down the RPPPL (thx Ryan). Jim's big head is pretty smart, but I know what's really goin' on in there. He's preparing a 21st century knock-off of the Theopult.

Jim: that stuff is pretty neat. Any idea how much it costs?
Posted By: jims place Re: The Deck - 06/29/07 03:14 PM
I’ll let you know when they get back with me. Got a feeling it’s not cheap, but it sure looks like the applications are endless.
Posted By: Ryan Freeze Re: The Deck - 06/29/07 03:42 PM
So what's the slot for?

Jim, let us know what you hear. I would love this stuff.
