I wanted to copy and paste a short reply I made about jar tests into a new thread.

I went into Advanced Forum Search, and entered "jar" (without quote punctuation) into the Keyword Search field. I then selected the button to "Search Entire Posts" and clicked the "Search Forums" button.

Returned: "There are no results to your query."

I then switched to using "alum" as the keyword search. That returned the appropriate results. (All Forums was selected in the left column for both searches.)

Anyone know what I am doing wrong that I can't even complete a search for "jar"?

Thanks.

That function is sometimes a miss. I use it a lot with good results but once in a while I get a big blank. Who did you search for "By Display Name"
? If there was no person named it likely defaulted.

ewest,

Thanks for the reply and suggestions.

I tried it adding my handle in Display Name, because I know I responded in some of those threads.

Still got no results for jar. Switched keyword to "test" and got too many results.

Switched to jar+test, but that did not require both terms to generate a result. It still responded only for test.

I can only conclude that the NSA does not want us to have clear ponds because then the Soviets would be able to evaluate the available supplies of freshwater fish in the U.S. grin

I repeated Rod's stated method and also got zero results for "jar", while searching Titles only, Bodies only, and Entire Posts, as well as using the simple search function for "jar".

OTOH, I got a bunch of hits for "pickerel", including a post I just made.

The search function doesn't seem to like the word "jar". frown

If you have a neighbor who mows his grass in what seem like unusual patterns, he is reporting on your activities by a visual code to Russian spy satellites. My In-Laws had one of those next door to their farm.

Some search engines require a minimum of 4 characters.

"jar test" (within quotes) returns correct results.

Thanks Knobber.

I suspect you are correct that my search failure was due to not meeting the 4 character threshold.

I still get too many results for "jar test" because it returns all of the threads that contain test.

However, at least I now understand my failure mode. As usual, I learn something new on Pond Boss every day! grin

These are the results for "jar test" in search title only. Only 5 meet the criteria.

Thanks again Knobber!

I skimmed your earlier post too quickly. I did not realize that putting multiple search terms within quotes was the proper means to get the search engine to seek posts that only had ALL of the terms!

I did find the post I was looking for yesterday based on a much clumsier search. mad Should have studied the expert advice a little more deeply!
