True story. My wife and I were shark fishing out of a old 16 foot ski boat with the center isle my dad had given us. My wife hooks into a 250# bull shark and fights it for an hour and fifteen min. Before finally bringing it boat side. She had walked that isle thirty times as the shark circled the boat. And every time she passed through the windows we would hit a wave or the shark would snatch her, and bang her hip into the corner of the frame. Even exhausted and hurting she would not let me help her!! But that was not when I knew I was brilliant for choosing her. It was a week later when she roles over to me at midnight and says " I think we should buy a new boat". To which I responded I LOVE YOU and you can pick out what ever u want!! We ended up with a 17 foot sea fox.

Wrong brother - she chose you ! If you don't think so just ask her. Never underestimate how a woman works.

Glad you both made a good choice !!

This thread is especially relevant for me today, as it's my wife's birthday. I can't imaging sharing my life with anyone else. Wife, mother, friend, and soul mate....after almost 24 years of marriage I'm still amazed by her everyday.

You all are very fortunate, as are your spouses!

I too am very fortunate as my folks just celebrated 55 years of marriage. Still lovers and still soulmates (after raising 4 boys) and I'm fortunate because I get to work with them both every day. This October would have been 28 years for me but we didn't quite make it. On a good note, she and I have been great friends over the past 20 years, always putting our son first wink

We're all truly blessed in so many ways!

This September will be 25 years for us already!!

Great thread. It is always good to hear of so many good match-ups. We'll celebrate 38 great years this fall. Our closest friends all seem to be in the same category. We've got a number of good friends who have been married for more than 50 years, and a few more than 60 years.

One of my boyhood friends, whose parents were good friends of my parents and to me, had been married 66 years. In their late 80s, they both still lived unassisted in their home. Last year they both had to be hospitalized in the same week for different issues. They died a day apart the following week.

They were role models to many of us now in our mid- to late-60s.
Boy, I feel like a puppy compared to some...Wife and I just celebrated our 10th moving into our new home...Hoping to spend many more in it watching my boys and fish grow!!!

29 years for us. I never was housebroke myself, but somehow, I took a city girl and reformed her into a righteous deer hunter and fisherwoman. She even field dresses--albeit w/a lot of dryheaving. Her favorite stores are Rural King and Bass Pro Shops, and she prefers cheap beer over everything else.

I love to hear these stories. When you look around today the world seems cold for some reason. Sometimes I wonder if anyone is as happy as I am. I am so glad to hear that there are others that don't just share a name but a deep love and great life together.

I will see if I can dig up the pics of the shark it has been 7 years and we were still using film camera at the time.
I've been married for 45 years. Of course there was a couple of years between my entry level wife and my permanent one.

I too have been blessed with a “keeper” for a long time. When I first came under her spell they called it "going steady", but how steady could I have been at 14? I wanted to share an experience I had several years ago when I met another “Hall-of-Fame-Keeper”. I was running my commercial tow boat in the northern Gulf of Mexico in the spring of 2006 when I got a call from the Coast Guard of a stranded boater. They weren’t too far offshore, about an 18 foot open runabout with a 40’ish couple onboard and I had them back at the dock in short order. I towed them back into Carrabelle then drove them to Apalachicola to get their truck and trailer where they had launched. During this ride I learned that this was not their first time being towed back in, but it had happened on their last time out in the late fall of 2005. They had launched on a Sunday morning for a day of “close in” fishing when they had engine failure. They didn’t have enough anchor rope to reach the bottom (even though the gulf is pretty shallow) so they drifted…..for 5 days. They were picked up by another boater the following Friday. They didn’t file a float plan and had no expecting them home at a specific time. They sipped bottled water and snacked on crackers all the week and fortunately the boat had a bimini so they could get out of the sun. He had no GPS, no radio and no business going offshore. The amazing part is that after he worked on the boat all winter, she got back on the boat on his next outing. They had not been married too long and it was a second marriage for them both, she said he liked her to go fishing with him, so she did. Most wives would probably NEVER get back on that boat again, but not this one, sometimes true love can overwhelm common sense!

...did they catch any fish while drifting out at sea???
Posted By: n8ly Re: How I new I picked the right girl. - 05/15/13 03:46 AM
....I woulda been glued to my graph marking every good spot as I drifted over....

I don't remember about them fishing, but they were not serious fishermen. He did have a hand held GPS and a compass mounted on the dash. Like most occasional boaters, he had limited knowledge on the use of his GPS.
