A car mechanic's shop here in Arkansas. I told one of the employee's about the guy and he threw the rest of the flyers away.

He actually threatened me with with a serious butt whuppin but I couldn't pin him down on an appointment.

He's done time for his transgressions.

I don't get how the scam works. Details would be great to help protect all of us. How do they get anything out of it?

It's buy one get one free but the fish are more expensive than other places. He also recommends way more fish than you need to stock.

My free load of fish, many years ago, was going to run, I believe, about $1,200. Of course, he was going to fertilize for free. It didn't seem to bother him that it was January. At that time, I believe he called himself Arkansas Fish Stockers or something like that.

Coach, my one acre pond was about half full and I was about to buy 2,000 BG, 1,000 LMB, and 1,000 CC. The LMB were all Floridas. Of course as he says, half are free. He says he carefully counts them when they are loaded so he doesn't have to do it at the pond. It would have been an environmental nightmare.

At the time, I had a new pond but very little pond knowledge and was in the hospital recovering from surgery. My Brother handled all of the details that he saw in the Classified Section of the Fort Worth Star Telegram. I got curious and started calling fish sellers. This was pre Pond Boss days and I didn't know Lusk. Not sure I even had internet. One of them was Bill Wingo of Fort Worth. He gave me about an hour on the phone discussing Ponds 101.

So, I called the free fish guy on his cell phone to cancel the order. He told me that it was too late and he was already on his way. (No appointment had been set). When I told him he could keep the fish he told me that he was going to dump the whole works at my front gate and give me a butt whuppin. I asked several times when that was going to be but he wasn't interested in setting an appointment for either.

He has been indicted in several states and, I understand, has done time for this scam.

I like how he says he answers the phone 24 hours a day. Almost just begging to be called about every 10 minutes, for fun.

Why do these people stay in business? There is outfit in Florida that scams fisherman with their low standard fish reproductions and price deception, other deceptions. They've got a lot of the charter captains in their pocket for commissions. They've been in trouble with the state attorney general's office more than once but it doesn't seem put them out of business.

joeyw,

Welcome to Pond Boss, and thanks for posting. I did a Google check, and came up with this interesting tid-bit:

BBB - First Southern Aquaculture

This also relates to another thread started last week by Bob Lusk regarding warrants for this gentleman.
