Great morning on the pond - air temp at sunrise 46 degrees - 62 near surface water temp.

Caught every species in pond - year and half old fish stocked by Overton last fall/late winter/early spring after catastrophic fish kill in July 2008.

Congrats George! How big was the Tilapia and the RES?

You are a darn good "diverse" angler, George! \:\)

Scott, I'm guessing the tilapia was about a 3 pounder.
RES was 10 inches and about a pound.
Male CNBG are running between 9 - 10 inches ....
Feed trained native LMB are running betweem 12 and 14 inches.
HSB about the same.

Dr.Dave, all's fair in love, war, and fishin' ....
Stubby Steve's fly pellets fished deep worked best this morning.

George what did you catch the RES on ?

Note all the species exhibit very good growth rates and condition . Did I hear someone say good fish genes + new pond , good water quality and feeding = outstanding growth rates.

Stubby Steve fly fished on the bottom.
Posted By: n8ly Re: Super Grand Slam - 10/19/09 11:25 PM
does that mean that RES will potentially eat sinking fish food?
Posted By: esshup Re: Super Grand Slam - 10/19/09 11:41 PM
I'd say definately YES. I've seen them pick pellets off the bottom in my pond.

George:

Congrats again, those are some NICE fish!

Nate, I love to catch RES on top-water foam bugs but if I really want to catch instead of fish, I'll tie on Cecil's pellet fly or more recently a Stubby Steve pellet.
A hook large enough to sink the fly is required because most, if not all, are caught on the bottom.
Stubby Steve's are out-producing AQMX flies and a heck of a lot more convenient.

This technique requires only a medium fly casting skill level since short casts are the norm.

Nate RES will eat floating pellets but eat them as they sink better. They will eat sinking pellets. I do wonder how efficient they are at eating a high % of sinking pellets before they get lost in pond bottom muck. I have fed them over a suspended piece of tin so the pellets land on the tin about a foot off the bottom.

Stocked by Overton, managed by George. Nuff said.

WOW Bob, you just made my day!!!!
These old bones are creaking with pain this morning after crawling up and down pond banks yesterday.
You just made it all worthwhile.
Thanks!

Fantastic George! You are an inspiration to us all.

Nice report George! The "stubbys" produced well again for you I see!

That RES looks like a RES/BLGL hybrid to Clint and I. Clint brought that to my attention and I agree. No red ear tab evident and can see faint vertical bars. Anybody else have an opinion on this?

Really nice fish, George! I always love seeing your pictures!

I was thinking that it was a hybrid as well, but George knows his fish so I wasn't gonna butt in.

I appreciate the responses for we were puzzled as well as to ID.
I thought it to be a RES with one ear tab chewed on and the other almost chewed off since no apparent red ear tab?
Must have been quite a fight!

I can see the faint visible vertical bars now that you mention it.

Hard to tell especially in young fish. Yes that fish is young no matter its size (see tail size relative to body). I see some unusual (for BG) pale edge on the ear flap. Also the pectoral fin is that of a RES and I have seen that coloration ( & bars) in both RES and BG X RES. Note that it is a chain pattern of bars (= RES ).

RES X BG (could be CNBG based on location)
