I recently finished excavation of my pond. It has not yet filled up yet so I have an opportunity to easily spread whatever type of bottom I desire. I called the pond consultant yesterday and asked him what he suggested and he said "river sand with gravel in it". He really did not elaborate and when I asked him what size gravel he basically said "you know, gravel". That seems pretty simple and I suspect it would not be too expensive.

My thoughts are that I could buy a couple of loads and spread it all the way around the entire perimeter of the pond. I suspect it would not only give the fish to do their thing but also be more comfortable on swimmer's feet.

Any reason (other than cost), not to do this?
