Anyone have any experience with this product from Cabbelas called the panhandler? It looks like it might make it much easier to clean up perch and pan fish.
Any experience with the product would be great. Thinking of trying one for the perch I have but again not sure how it will do with larger perch.
Cheers Don.
I have not used the product, but I buy from Cabelas often. I find the products that have a 4.0 rating or better I am always happy with and products with 3.9 lower is a crap shoot. But that's just me. You can also ask about it on their product forum, where people that have it will reply. Hope this helps
Can't comment about the product but this is what I use for fish cleaning. Easy to build, quite fast, and most importantly, will save your non knife hand from the death of a 1000
razor blades YP and WE gill plates. Use the clamp on YP and WE. Just the board for all other fish.
I have a very similar setup. Many years ago a friend was remodeling a butcher shop. He gave me a 3' x 5' piece of whatever the nearly 1-inch thick white material is that they use for cutting boards in butcher shops. It was headed for the dumpster.
I made a 3' x 3' cutting board for cutting up quartered deer. The other piece turned into several fish filleting boards. The one I use the most is about 8" x 30" using the same basic clamp you are using. It is my main (and favorite) fillet board.
I don't remember where I got the clamp -- it could have been Cabellas, BassPro, Gander Mountain, Wally-World ...
I've got one, Don, but unfortunately I have never used it. I bought it for the occasion when I need to clean a lot of fish, unfortunately that occasion has not come. For just a few fish, I hate the idea of having to clean more than just a knife, so it has been sitting in the box since I purchased it.
One thing nice about Cabela's is their customer service. I have found that even if an item is in used condition, if you don't like it and contact them. They will often refund your money...
Cabelas has nicer fish tanks than BPS too although I have not sold any live fish to them.
