I stocked 150 CC and 400HBG about 4 weeks ago. Now that it is warming up I have started throwing a little feed out in the feeding circle. Not seeing any activity yet. How long does it take to train them to head to the feeding area imediatly. Any advice to help them get trained?

Not much for new feed training will probably happen until the water temperature is 60F. What is your water temp? Also if the new pond has ample natural food the fish my not search for pellets until the natural foods are reduced in number. Be patient and keep trying until the water is above 65F. Keep us updated as to your progress. Monitor the water temps and see how close feeding resumes to my estimated time-temp. Your results will help other members with new fish.

Also, you need to feed in the same place at the same time every day to help speed things up.

Took my cc less than a week to figure out pellets, but I started when the water was 75+.

It's been above 60 for a few days. Pond was actually up to 70 today. Still nothing.

Not an expert here, FWIW I feed my CC 32% protein grain based floating pellets around 1/4 inch in size right at dusk. IIRC I also read in a thread, or maybe PBM, that CC feed most heavily after water temp reaches at least 75.

What about cnbg? My water has been in the 70's for several days. My fhm feed like crazy anywhere I put feed,in or out my circle.My cnbg are not hardly dhowing themselves at all. I do feed same time and place each day. Should I just be patient?

I stocked pellet trained PS last fall. I am hoping they pick right back up this year and teach my BG. I will be feeding those guys a small 45% protein fish meal based pellet that they were fed at the hatchery.

FWIW If you got those CNBG from a fish farm, you might check with them to see if they were fed pellets. If they were, IMHO I would get some of those same pellets to get them started and slowly tansisition them to the pellet you want to feed, assuming it is different than what the farm was feeding. Keep in mind I am not a pro.

Surface water temp over70 now. Just today the CNBG started to feed! Yay it's starting . Nothin neeter than watching them hit the surface

You newly stocked fish may be feeding on the natural food buffet in the pond. As it gets depleted the fish will turn to eating pellets especially since the FHM are eating pellets which will lead the CC and HBG to the pellets. As long as the FHM are eating all the pellets and they are not washing onto the shoreline your stockers should eventually figure out where the pellets are. Don't feed lots of pellets so they remain uneaten after 15-20 min until the non-FHM fish find and start eating the pellets.

Thanks everyone, Pat glad to hear of your 70 temps. Guess what? Its raining here all day again! Maybe my cnbg drowned with all the rain we have had.I will be patient and keep feeding.
