I've had them in the pond for about 2 weeks and they haven't come to feed yet. Using Aquamax 500 and Game Chow in 2 feeders.Would the CC be scaring them away?
thanks

Welcome docg!

How big are the fish? if you put in smaller stockers with some pound+ CC, the stockers might BE the pellets!

I have a 5 acre pond that has BG LMB grass carp and CC. I have just removed about 160 4-6 pound CC in that past month leading up to placment of these fish in the pond. The ones I'm speaking of were all 6-8 inches. I was going to put them in cages but the guys that delivered them stated they were fast enough to fend for themselves. I also purchased some hybrid BG that I am feeding in the cages.

My first fish guy told me the same story ....

Rex got it right - most expensive fish food ever stocked.
HSB need to be 8+ inches in order to survive mature predators.

The catfish will scare away the hybrids and the largemouth to an extent not totally but to some extent they will have an effect.

Doc,
cages would have been the way to go, if even for just a couple weeks. Takes a fish a few days to get his wits back about him from being trucked around the country.

how is the feeding the HBG going in the cages?

Doc how big are the LMB (adults over 12 in.)? If a pond has adult predators twice the size of the fish to be stocked then habituation is IMO the wise choice.

I put in 157 6-8" feed trained LMB in May of 2008. I made sure I used the exact pellets they used at the fish farm. They came up to feed within the first 3-4 days. Now not all of them came up... I'd say now only 10-20% of them still come up since the pond is 3-4 acres.

What kind of a schedule are you using to feed the LMB?
