Hi all, as you can see i am new to the forum... I can't believe it took me this long to find this site as i have been searching for info on building a pond for years... I have a question on location. I will apologize in advance for confusing you but i will try to describe it to the best of my ability... We have a property that is planted mostly in wheat as of right now. The west side of the property is significantly lower than the rest of the property... This area floods yearly which has almost created a small pond on its own in the middle of the field.. On the west side of the field is an old road which is now a small creek but there is a levee? along the west side of the field... The levee has broken where the field floods... So it seems that water is pooring into the field from both the east and west. I was wondering if a pond in the area that floods would be a good idea? I will try to provide a picture asap. Thanks
I guess the picture didn't work... I should also add i would love to make the pond as deep as possible so i could fish in it... Another added bonus would be to create a great habitat for furbearers... It would be nice to get two birds with one stone... or three for that matter
I don't see a problem if the dam is properly constructed out of good loam soils. That's what we've all done. You'll just need to calculate the likely runoff amount and build a dam to impound it. Make sure it is properly cored and take into account the need for an overflow area for excess water.

Looks like you tried to copy it from your C: file on your computer. Need to upload it to a file share site like Photobucket and copy and paste the IMG here. Looking forward to seeing the pics and welcome to the forum.

I guess the main question i want to ask, since the area that shows water is very flat, though the lowest place on the property, is where would the best place to put the dam be since a lot of the water comes through the broken levee on the west side...? Any suggestions would help tremendously... Thanks
